Australian Cities in Transition
Australian cities are the product of both historical factors and present social, demographic, economic, and political influences. Because of the durability of urban form, past development acts as a framework within which current forces operate. In recent years the nature of the current context has altered with a slowing of population growth. sustained economic recession, increasingly pluralistic social attitudes, and changes in government activity. All of these factors are bringing pressure to bear on the nature and rates ef urban development and evolution, the effects of which are widespread in Australian society. The book describes some of the changes taking place and asks how they will affect the future form of the city and the quality of life of those residents in the urban environment.
Australian Cities in Transition should be of interest to anyone concerned with the nature and outcomes of urban processes in this country.
