Technology and You was written to provide an easy to understand, well illustrated book on technology for jun ior high school students. Rapid change has become a normal part of our everyday lives. Since most change results from advances in technology, it is important for young people to become "technolog ically literate." In the past, literacy depended only on reading, writing, speak ing, listening, and math skills. Now a literate person is one who has these skills and knows what technology is, the good and bad effects of technology, and how to make sure that the effects are as good as possible. Technological literacy is the purpose of this book. This is a broader concept than those (such as woodworking, metal shop, and power shop) covered in a traditional industrial arts setting. Whereas industrial arts courses have traditionally been limited to only a part of the student body, technology education courses are for all students.
