Eco-City and Green Community The Evolution of Planning Theory and Practice
In the 21st century, urban planners are faced with many new challenges which include climate change, ecosystem degradation, loss of biodiversity, community vulnerability, and social inequalities. The concepts of "green community" and "eco-city" have emerged as important integrated approaches for achieving environmental and economic sustainability at the local level. However, the idea of and need for eco-city and green community development and the values connected to this topic have not been sufficiently studied as far as the wider public is involved. Urban decision makers, planners, stakeholders, and the general public are all confronted with a lack of understanding of the concepts and implementation of this topic. Therefore, it has become urgent and necessary to make an innovative study of the theory and practice of eco-city and green community.
