Terrain Classification for Engineering Purposes of the Queenscliff Area, Victoria
The terrain of the Queenscliff area, Victoria (SJ55-9) has been classified for engineering purposes in accordance with a scheme discussed by Aitchison and Grant (1967) and described in detail by Grant (1968). The scheme is known as the PUCE (Pattern-Unit-Component-Evaluation) Programme. The basis of the Programme is that any area of land can be uniquely defined in terms of its topography, i.e. slope characteristics, underlying lithologic and structural (tectonic) characteristics, and soil and vegetation characteristics; by defining intervals in these terrain characteristics at suitable significant levels, valid naturalistic terrain classes may be erected.
