This book has the intention of demonstrating the qualitative characteristics of the Swedish art of building. It therefore describes historical develop- ments as well as the strengths of contemporary developments. And our characteristic is not only the architectural expressions but also the manner in which Sweden has planned both socially and technically, and erected buildings and maintained them. The book's architectural presentations have therefore been complemented with essays that throw light on other aspects of building and of the management of buildings.
