Families in Flats: A Study of Low Income Families in Public Housing
Singapore's public housing programme has been acclaimed as one of the most successful in the world. This book examines the social determinants of the programme and seeks to understand the sociological, economic, and psychological effects of relocation on a group of low income families residing in the high-rise high-density environment of one of Singapore's public housing estates. It analyses people's perception of the new family and neighbourhood environment and its consequences for their future well-being. In the analysis of his socio- logical and ethnographic data, the author pays special attention to the implications of relocation for various aspects of family and community life of the respondents and their families.
