The form of remote work in the neighbourhood that has been studied in this project has not earlier occurred. A full-scale experiment was chosen in order to broaden the means for prac tical experience. The concept implies that various employers rent one or more work places in a neighbourhood work center for employees living in the area. Those who work in the center have their em ployer at a distance and the contact between them is mainly maintained by telephone, telefax, data terminal and mail. Work in a neighbourhood work center thus constitutes a form of re mote work intermediate between work at a branch office and in the home.
