Great Cities of The World: Their Government, Politics, and Planning (Volume II)
The purpose of the book is to describe in depth the local government of a selected group of the world's great cities, to consider the problems these vast communities are confronting, and what steps they are taking to overcome them.
In Part One of the book, entitled 'The Great City of Today', Professor Robson contributes a masterly synthesis of the material contained in the separate studies. This has been rewritten and is substantially enlarged.
Great Cities of the World was a pioneer work which stimulated the production of a considerable amount of research and writing on metro- politan cities. It remains, however, not only a standard work but the only one which contains studies by experts of more than a score of metropolitan areas scattered throughout the world. Political scientists, urban geographers, planners, political leaders, officials and even intelligent travelers will find the new edition of Great Cities of the World of absorbing interest.
