Urbanization Primer

This Urbanization Primer was originally a compilation of notes recording observations as well as work experiences over several years. In 1976, these notes were focused in a Primer for site and services projects prepared at the request of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), Washington, D.C. It was printed for informal distribution with the intent to develop information and guidelines for use of the Urban Projects) Department. George Beier and Praful Patel provided the terms of reference and general support, and also contributed with invaluable suggestions. The work, however, was the sole responsi bility of the authors and did not necessarily reflect the views of the Bank. The present edition of the Primer incorporates all of the above material plus ex tensive additional notes and examples illustrating problems of urbanization. It is published with the permission of the World Bank, through the courtesy of George Beier and Edward V.K. Jaycox, Director of the Urban Projects Department.
