Textbook
Specification: For Architecture, Engineering, & Construction
It is difficult to acknowledge the origin of all the material used in this book. In part, the book was written from notes accumulated years ago while preparing lectures for students at the Detroit Institute of Technology. This was long before the writing of a book was considered, and, therefore, the source is obscure. The principles set forth in this text are a combination of the author's experience as a specification writer, along with principles he has learned from others. For the latter, the author acknowledges having leaned heavily on what he learned from the meetings and publications of the Construction Specifications Institute. Their monthly magazine, The Construction Specifier, has been published since 1949, and throughout the years has covered almost every aspect of specification writing. Direct quotes are noted by the date, when known, and are published with the permission of the Construction Specifications Institute.
