Roof Construction for Housing in Developing Countries
The common phrase "to have a roof over one's head" communicates a sense of security and comfort. Many housing housing organizations and housing banks use the roof as a symbol, suggesting a synonymy of "roof" and "shelter". But even technically the roof is the most significant part of a house: it costs the most, by area and orientation it is the part most exposed to the elements, and it is the part primarily responsible both for indoor comfort and for damage suffered during earth- quakes and hurricanes.
