Contemporary Urban Architecture: A Design Approach
This book is a study of contemporary design trends of buildings, the impact of socio-economic influences and of contemporary technology on a design. approach, and of the likely future trends of design approach calculated to shape the urban space of tomorrow's India. The book comprises of ten chapters. The first three chapters deal with building form, its growth and evo- lution, with special reference to the effect of the introduction of the floor space index, and the function of positive and negative spaces with regard to the overall composition of a building. The fourth chapter traces the functional growth of building from the planning to the finishing st while the fifth is a detaileds various specialised functional buildings like factories, hospitals, etc.
Chapter Seven deals with the various materials used, the methods of construction and various service systems required for a building. The interior decoration of a building, which contributes to its aesthetics, is discussed in detail in Chapter Eight. Chapters Nine and Ten provide a comparative study of urbanisation vis-a-vis South Bombay on the one hand and Central and North Bombay on the other.
