Large participation of specialists on the durability of concrete and concrete structures from whole the world and a wide exchange of ideas in the proceedings of the Symposium RILEM 1969 have proved great practical importance of questions dealt with and at the same time also the necessity of a solid, scientific base for the studies of the mechanics and especially the kinetics of all important processes of concrete deterioration. It is necessary in relation to the possibility to introduce more convenient laboratory tests and, this especially, in relation to the possibility to interpret the results of tests and to their application for practical solutions of concrete and concrete structures durability in specific conditions of environment. With the interest in accelerated development of an effective international cooperation in the very expensive and time-consuming durability research the importance of convenient common test methods for setting forth the kinetics of progressive deterioration of concrete structure has further grown. The results of the 4 days proceedings of the Symposium provide a survey of the actual state of main scientific notions in the branch further limited by questions dealt with as well as a reliable base for further research work and wide international cooperation.
