This book presents the proceedings of the first General Assembly of the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL), held in Wash- ington DC in 2005. Three years after its establishment in Kyoto, 2002, these proceed- ings encompass the achievements of ICL within this period. The book consists of four parts: (1) a history of the ICL activities sup- ported by UNESCO, WMO, FAO, UN/ISDR, and UNU, (2) Research results of the International Programme on Landslides (IPL), (3) Landslide risk analysis, and (4) Sustainable disaster management. Thus it enables the reader to benefit from the many results of the international activities in the field of landslides.
