Energy Dissipation in One Way RC Slabs Under Impact Tests, Part 1: Influence of Different Types of Longitudinal Reinforcement and Welded Lapped Splices on the Energy Dissipation
One-way R.C. slabs with horizontal restraints at the supports have been loaded dynamically by a mass of steel dropped from different heights. The aim was to study the influence of different reinforcement steels in concrete slabs on the energy dissipation for impact loads. The energy dissipation was determined by comparing the sum of potential and kinetic energy before and after impact. The positions and velocities of the drop weight and the slab were calculated with help of a film taken with a high speed camera. A theoretical model to calculate the energy dissipation was derived. This study is a part of a larger research program sponsored by The Swedish National Rescue Service Board with the aim to study debris loads of buildings on shelters.
